About PCI Compliance

The Payment Card Industry (PCI) Security Standards Council was founded by members of major credit card companies to develop security standards in the payment card industry (PCI Data Security Standards, or PCI DSS) and to educate merchants on the requirements for following those standards. The Security Standards Council meets regularly to review, update, and amend the standards. We stay on top of the council’s activities to ensure we’re aware of any standards changes so we can be sure our customers remain in compliance.

All merchants that accept credit cards must follow the PCI DSS. The standards are meant to help protect cardholder data, which, in turn, protects you and your customers. Noncompliance can result in stiff fines and penalties by the credit card associations and possibly result in your privilege to accept credit cards being revoked.
